Not even vaguely "kind of". It is 112 kilometres from MCY to the Brisbane CBD, 94 kilometres to the Pine Rivers Bridge, 80 kilometres to North Lakes. MCY is not Brisbane North.

By comparison, AVV is only 54 kilometres to the centre of Melbourne, 42 kilometres to Altona and 25 kilometres to Werribee.

I would, 80-90ks on a freeway as opposed to half the distance, not a third, on a tollway.
It's not half the distance at all, it's about a third. North Lakes is 34 kilometres to BNE, Pine Rivers Bridge is 21 kilometres and no tolls.
I still would

morno, I know what part of Bris-Vegas you got the uber to, and how far that place is from Bris-Vegas airport. There is a toll, and it's a pain in the arse to avoid. I know Mick needs to have the last word on all things aviation, you not so much but when it comes to saving more than a few pineapples on an airfare I'd drive half an hour longer to do it. And I'll also do it to avoid paying tolls to parasite thieves that charge me twice as much because I drive a 'commercial vehicle' privately owned.

Do a price check on fares from Bris to Melb verse Cooly to Melb when REX are discounting fares out of the Goldy. It can be $260 one way as opposed to $90. If the same thing happens out of Maroochy, then people will do it.

I am not criticising in any way, but I am struck by the attendant irony in pilots discussing where to get the cheapest fares on a forum often devoted to where to get the highest wages. On the other hand, if you are on a dud award you have to save where you can.

Errr, I don’t know how you’d know what my Uber history is, but I never said that I got an Uber from Brisbane Airport anyway. I was referring to getting an Uber from Maroochy to a part of the Northern suburbs of Brisbane. And that suburb is still a good 45mins from the Brisbane CBD.

Doubtful. Quite a few reputable entities, American, United, Korean, Singapore, Air Canada are already operating them without much fear of the ramifications of another event.

Singapore is already flying them into Australia.

100% when the pilots that are one or two steps above you continue to negotiate lower wages both in dollar terms and adjusted for inflation why would you pay a premium?

There is no toll road from the northern suburbs of Brisbane to the airport, unless you go out of your way to go through the tunnel. But from Petrie you would have to really be going out of your way to find a toll.

I think all you’re showing, by insisting that there’s a toll road from the North side of Brisbane to the airport that I cannot avoid (which I can, without even trying), is that you really have little clue about how Maroochy is definitely not “just near” Brisbane, and that you can’t compare it to Avalon and Melbourne.

It’d be like comparing Sydney to Newcastle. You don’t fly into Newcastle to fly to Sydney.

By the way, no I didn’t catch an Uber from MCY to Petrie.

End of the day
Be it
Regional towns to Sunny Coast for holidays
Sunny Coast locals visiting family interstate
Cheap fares attracting northern Brisbane peeps to MCY
The "Sunny Coast Hub" linking northern regionals to southern regionals

Whilst none of these alone make for a good business model, the combination of the above points may well do

Except that, ITS ALREADY SERVICED BY ALL THE OTHER MAJORS with direct flights.

Foreign companies, nothing linked to Australia, and we all know Australians like to reinvent the wheel on strange ideas. But my point was that the scenario I put forward however feasible is far more likely than Bonza making money from it's advertised route structure, not that it was likely to be real.

Well said. It's pretty clear that a couple of the contributors have no idea. Petrie to Brisbane airport entails Anzac Avenue - Dohles Rocks Road - Bruce Highway/Pine Rivers Bridge and then the Gateway Motorway onto Moreton Drive; 31 kilometres, mostly on dual carriageway at 80-100 km/h, and no tolls. As you've pointed out you need to drive out of your way, into Kedron (25 kilometres, where you spend nearly half your travel time on 60-70 km/h Gympie Road), to get to the closest toll road, the Airport Link tunnel. And then it's another 11 kilometres to the airport. Nobody takes a toll road from Petrie to Brisbane airport.

The Max will be an expensive aircraft for Bonza. I fail to see how the operation can be financially viable over a 12 month period. Outside of school holidays they will drown in debt.

I don't think we can spout the foreign company thing given both REX and Virgin are foreign companies. As for QF... people are pretty fed up with them that Bonza might just fly and do well.

There is as many people fed up with VA, Rex as they’re with QF! Have you not seen the news, or read the papers. Actual data have VA ahead of QF in terms of cancelations. QF are just a bigger target that’s why they’re getting headlines.

No matter what JS will say about the holiday cancelations and OTP or what ever he will want to sprout about it’s pretty much meaningless, 6 jets Vs well over 150 between QF, JQ and VA.

Not sure what you are getting at but I mean not based in Australia and therefore outside sight and mind of local thoughts on a type. Lots of foreign entities fly Russian and Chinese turboprops, you wont find them welcomed by passengers warmly here until they have proven themselves, locally that is.

First one registered. I was told recently that two VA Pilots have moved over. I wonder if our friend from up north JDL is involved.

There must be lots of current 73 guys and gals out there, as not being current doesn't get you a look in.

So they only want current 737 pilots, all of whom are with the majors currently* and they want to pay a pittance. For an airline with Buckley's chance with its current business plan.

*well, some guys on classics with the freight operators maybe.

You can thank VA and ZL Management for driving that agenda (or achievement to them). 2022 and we are paying wages from a decade ago.

In the long run it will bite them all on the @rse. Very important that Team JQ gets a decent agreement up, at this rate they and QF will one the only employers of choice long term, the others will be too busy trying to outdo each other on how little we can pay our pilots.
