CAA to IAA Class 1 Medical Conversion
Anybody got any ideas how this works (if it does)? I know it works other way around.
After spending £310 + flights to Gatwick, I'd rather not have to spend €600+ to travel to Dublin for an IAA equivalent!
Advice?

This is unbelieveable, I just got confirmation from IAA that I DO have to re-sit the full Class 1 medical exam in Ireland even though I recently passed the JAR Class 1 exam by the CAA in Gatwick - I can't convert it even though it can be done vice-versa!
What's the point in JAR based medical if that's the case?

I presume that you are a new aviator about to start training in Ireland, JAA requires you to have your medical in the country of training and initial issue of your licence.
If you are not a newbie, then I'm surprised as i operate on an IAA licence with medical renewals obtained in other JAA countries.

I am indeed a newbie. And I understand what you are saying. But what surprises me is that the CAA will convert/endorse an IAA medical for a small fee, but not the other way around - this is what I find strange!
Basically I done the CAA medical in Gatwick, passed it, and have been selected for FTE's integrated course. In the meantime, I have been in touch with Sigmar based out of Ireland/Sth Africa, and I'm doing an assessment with them shortly. However they say that they require an IAA medical (which is reimbursed if you decide to accept/are accepted).
As you can imagine, after already forking out £400, I'd rather not have to spend €600+ on another!
It just surpirses me.

Hello there.
The IAA gave me a free, straight swap for a Czech JAA class 1 a couple of years ago.
Check with their Chief Med. Examiner Mrs Roodenburg (though it was her predecessor at the time), if she would do that.
The initial class one is 60 GBP, but all you would need is the renewal if you have all the papers, which is 40 GBP.

I have already been in contact with Dr. Roodenburg, she has made it perfectly clear that I would need to resit the entire Irish medical i.e. they will not accept my UK class medical at all.
Interestingly I contacted the CAA with the same request, and they said that I CAN convert my UK medical to Irish, all they need is a request for from the IAA for the medical results and data (for a fee).
The whole thing is confusing me, it should be a simple process. Being Irish myself (living in Scotland), it is embarrassing that the UK & Europe will accept Irish medicals, but not the other way around. To me, that's unfair and just plain mean.
Or am I being unfair?

Double check with the med docs in the Mater. I also have a CAA class 1 medical and recently made an enquiry to the Mater about renewing it in Ireland. They informed me that it wouldn't be a problem to renew it with them and that it would cost around 200euros.
I recommend asking to speak to one of the med doctors to get positive confirmation.
